COMMONWEALTH GAMES GOLD FOR ORS

Following the success of three Old Reptonians in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics Repton celebrates former pupils bringing home gold in the Commonwealth Games.

The Repton community is celebrating another fantastic show of hockey strength by Old Reptonians as Shona McCallin, Flora Peel and Lily Walker were part of the team who brought home gold for England in the Commonwealth Games.

ORs Leah Wilkinson and Shona McCallin secured a bronze medal for the women’s hockey team in a dramatic final against India in the Tokyo Olympics last summer. After a tough round of pool matches where they faced fellow OR Charlotte Stapenhorst representing Germany, Leah and Shona became part of the first British hockey team to medal at three consecutive Olympic games.

Repton is also celebrating Adam Peaty’s gold medal victory in the 50m breaststroke at the Commonwealth Games having secured a haul of medals in Tokyo as he defended his Olympic title in the 100m breaststroke. Adam and his coach Melanie Marshall trained up to eight times a week in Repton’s pool and was the main training venue for the four-year cycle leading up to the Rio 2016 Olympics. His journey continues to be an inspiration to many, not least Repton Swimming Club where many young athletes endeavour to replicate his sporting successes.

England finished second in the medals table at the 2022 Commonwealth Games with 166 medals in total, 55 of which were gold.

Repton School aims to instil the resilience and determination is takes to succeed in the modern world, offering an unbounded education that is truly balance. Sport is a central part of a Repton education with every pupil taking part in timetabled sport at least three times each week. Hockey and swimming are amongst our six focus sports with Repton Hockey Club and Repton Swimming Club producing talented players who promise to be the Olympians of the future.
