EXTRA CURRICULAR

DRAMA

Throughout the academic year, there are many opportunities for pupils to take part in School productions. These include the Christmas shows performed by Pre-Prep pupils, year group presentation evenings from Prep pupils, boarders’ productions at the end of each term and the Year 8 Leaver’s Play, as well as one major production for which pupils audition for acting and technical roles. We also hold Shakespeare in the Woods, which is performed by Year 6 pupils to the Pre-Prep.

We are extremely fortunate to have wonderful performance spaces, including our Theatre, Assembly Hall, Portico and Head’s Garden. Not only are we able to provide pupils with plenty of extracurricular opportunities for dramatic performances, but we are also able to provide pupils who are interested in the technical aspects of theatre with varied opportunities to enter our lighting and sound gallery and operate the equipment themselves.

The Drama and Music departments work closely together to bring the arts alive, culminating in fantastic productions all year round.

LAMDA

LAMDA – London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts – exams inspire and empower learners across the globe to confident communicators. For those who are passionate about drama or wish to increase their confidence in a nurturing environment, Repton Prep offers LAMDA speech and drama lessons with our Head of LAMDA, Mrs Sekhon.

A personalised programme is tailored to each pupil’s needs and abilities, creating challenging and fun lessons from Year 3 upwards. This offers pupils the opportunity to improve their confidence and develop a love of performing without fear, achieving impressive success in external exams, festivals and competitions.

The LAMDA syllabus provides pupils with a choice of disciplines to pursue, including acting, reading for performance and speaking of verse and prose. Repton Prep is also a prestigious LAMDA examination centre.

Lessons are available within and outside of school hours and a pass at Grade 6 or above in any of the LAMDA disciplines enables young people to acquire UCAS points.

In addition to LAMDA examinations, we offer the opportunity for pupils to compete in the prestigious Derby Arts Festival as well as encourage pupils to participate in other performance opportunities throughout the academic year.

MUSICAL theatre

In addition to LAMDA we also have a specialist teacher who works between Repton and Repton Prep, Mrs Winter, who teaches individual Musical Theatre lessons. This specialist teaching builds on the skills that our children learn in their drama and LAMDA lessons, helping pupils to hone singing and performance skills for the stage and is extremely popular amongst pupils in Year 2 upwards.

Many of our most talented performers go on to receive prestigious Drama scholarships at Repton School, home to an award-winning theatre space that encourages pupils to explore and perform in a diverse variety of theatre styles.
