REPTON PREP

Every application to Repton Prep is treated individually and we aim to make the process as efficient and as seamless for both parents and children. We guide families through the admissions process, in-keeping with the spirit of a Repton education to tailor details to individual needs, so that you will feel fully confident that you have made the right school choice.

ADMISSIONS process

  • 1 — Register your interest

    If you are interested in registering for a place at Repton Prep, please contact Ellie Jones, Repton Prep’s Admissions Manager, who will be delighted to arrange a visit.

  • 2 — Visit us

    We have a variety of Prep and Pre-Prep Open Mornings throughout the year, in addition we can arrange individual visits and tours for your family.

  • 3 — Taster day

    Pupils are invited to spend a day at school with their current year group. This enables them to familiarise themselves with the school environment, meet staff members and make new friends. Those pupils who are looking to board are also invited to spend a night in a boarding house, to help prepare them for boarding life at Repton Prep.

  • 4 — Entry requirements

    For pupils entering our Pre-Prep (Nursery to Year 2), there is no selection criteria and is open to all.

    From Year 3 upwards, a report and reference from the child’s school will be requested. Assessments will be undertaken during a taster day or group assessment days at Repton Prep.

    Those pupils wishing to join us in Year 7 are invited to take part in our Year 7 entry assessment day which usually takes place at the end of January.

  • 5 — Offer of a place

    Our Admissions Manager stays in close, personal touch with you throughout the Admissions process. We start building our relationship with you straight away to ensure a smooth transition to life as a Reptonian with invitations to School events.

HOW MANY PUPILS DO YOU HAVE AT THE SCHOOL?

We have approximately 420 pupils at the school from Nursery through to Year 8. There is a 50/50 split of boys and girls.

WHAT ARE YOUR CLASS SIZES LIKE?

Our maximum class size is 18, with an average staff to pupil ratio of 1:8 across the school.

ARE THERE SCHOLARSHIP AND BURSARY OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE?

Yes, we offer the opportunity to apply for Academic, Sport, Music,  Drama, Art and DT scholarships to new pupils joining us in Year 7. We can also offer the opportunity to apply for a means tested bursary once your child has been registered.

WHAT LANGUAGES DO YOU OFFER?

We teach French, Spanish and Latin. French is taught from Year 1, while Spanish and Latin are offered to pupils from Year 7.

WHICH ARE THE MAIN SPORTS OFFERED AT THE SCHOOL?
  • Michaelmas Term - Football and Hockey
  • Lent Term - Hockey, Netball and Football
  • Summer Term - Cricket and Tennis
  • All year round - Swimming in our 25m onsite indoor pool
WHAT EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES DO YOU OFFER?

At last count we offer 60 activities and clubs across the school. Some of our more unusual activities include Woodland Games, Yoga, Construction Club, Feel Good Singing, Calligraphy, Nature Club, Hama Beads, Gardening, Quiz Night, Golf, Warhammer and Den Building amongst many others.

DOES MY CHILD HAVE TO ATTEND SATURDAY MORNING SCHOOL?

Saturday morning school runs from 8.20am to 11.50pm and is mandatory for pupils in Year 5 and above. We have an optional Saturday morning offering for pupils in Year 3 and Year 4 called Repton Plus.

IS THERE AN ENTRANCE EXAM TO COMPLETE AS PART OF THE ADMISSIONS PROCESS?

Pupils joining Year 3 and above will be asked to complete assessments as part of the admissions process. Children will be invited to attend one of our group assessment days as well as a taster day with us. Subject to a successful taster day and satisfactory school report and reference from your child’s current school, a place can then be offered.

WHAT SCHOOL TRIPS DO YOU OFFER?

We offer residential outward-bound trips to children in Year 6, Year 7 and Year 8. These take place in the Peak District, Lake District and Snowdonia. This is in addition to regular day trips that enrich our pupils learning in the classroom. 

DO YOU HAVE A SCHOOL BUS?

Yes, we have our own school buses and we run four routes from Ashbourne, Blythe Bridge, Belper, and Shenstone. The school buses can be used by pupils from Year 1 upwards. Please refer to our Joining Repton Prep page for more information on our routes and timetables.

WHERE DO MOST CHILDREN GO AFTER YEAR 8 AT REPTON PREP?

Approximately 90% of our pupils go on to Repton Senior School in Year 9.
