REPTON ALUMNI SHOWCASE THEIR ARTISTIC JOURNEY IN EXHIBITION

Repton School was thrilled to welcome back former pupils for the opening of ORigins, a unique exhibition featuring the work of six talented artists who began their artistic journeys in Repton’s Art Department. The exhibition brought together alumni artists from different eras, displaying their evolved practices in the very space where they once presented their A Level work.

The opening night was a vibrant reunion, with artists mingling among current art pupils, staff, friends and family. Ian Whitfield, Director of Art, described the event as “a warm and culturally satisfying experience that captured the shared roots and diverse paths these artists have taken”.

The exhibition displayed a remarkable range of styles and media. Tom Hume (Latham 2006-11) presented semi-figurative paintings that combined elements of still life with an experimental play on colour and gravity. Zoe Dobson Dunn (Garden 2006-11) showcased textual prints, one of which boldly proclaimed “stop overthinking”—a motto that resonated throughout the evening.

Also featured was Joe Sookias (School 2018-23), whose abstract expressionist paintings incorporate layered text and narratives. His work reflected a journey from Repton to Chelsea College of Art, where his artistic confidence and style have flourished. Anna Borup (Garden 2004-09) explored fragmented identity through her paintings of cropped body forms, while Izzy Emmett (Mitre 2012-17) showcased dazzling, hyper-realistic pastel portraits of animals and a self-portrait, each piece bringing personality to life with meticulous detail. Izzy Mead (Garden 2014-19) displayed swirling, evocative abstract pieces that captured her distinctive approach to texture and depth.

“It was an absolute pleasure, an honour, and a treat to have these six accomplished artists return to their creative origin,” said Whitfield. The ORigins exhibition was not only a celebration of talent but also a reminder of the enduring bond between Repton’s Art Department and its alumni. Through this event, the artists came full circle, sharing their growth and inspiring the next generation of Repton artists.
