REPTON SCHOOL CELEBRATES CRICKETING SUCCESS AS PUPIL HARRY MOORE JOINS ENGLAND LIONS
The past week has been nothing short of extraordinary for U6 pupil Harry Moore. His exceptional cricketing talents have been rewarded on two fronts: Harry has signed a new three-year professional contract with Derbyshire County Cricket Club and, in a moment of national significance, he has been selected to join the prestigious England Lions squad.
At just 17 years old, Harry has become the second-youngest player ever selected for the England Lions, where he will be playing just one step away from full international honours. He now joins an elite group of young cricketers, including Old Reptonian Jack Crawford, who played Test cricket for England as a teenager back in 1906.
Harry’s selection for the England Lions came as a surprise, having originally been chosen to attend an England U19s training camp in South Africa. However, during a lesson last Friday, Harry received the call up from none other than new Head Coach Andrew “Freddie” Flintoff himself, asking him to travel with the Lions this winter instead. The tour will comprise of a training camp and a four-day unofficial Test series against South Africa A, running from November 20 to December 14.
This achievement is all the more remarkable given the adversity Harry faced last year, when a serious stress fracture in his lower back required many months of rehabilitation. His determination and rapid recovery have been truly inspirational, making his rise to the top of English cricket even more impressive.
Harry’s dedication, resilience and sheer talent have led him to this extraordinary moment, and all at Repton School are immensely proud of his achievements. We wish Harry every success with the England Lions in South Africa this winter and in his professional career with Derbyshire CCC.
