REPTON SCHOOL HOCKEY SEES A FLURRY OF INTERNATIONAL HONOURS
When it comes to school hockey, Repton School in Derbyshire has long since cemented its reputation for developing prolific players who often take to the international stage.
This trend has most certainly been continued in 2024, with a recent flurry of selections for players across various age categories being chosen to represent their countries.
Hot on the heels of U6 pupil and Head of School Tilly Butterworth representing the England U21s in the Junior World Cup in Chile (alongside ORs Sienna Dunn and Claudia Swain), Repton pupils have earned further international hockey honours.
Lucy Barker, Kate Barker, Martha Wong and Tabby Vaughan have been selected for the England Girls' U18s, whilst Taheem Javaid and Marcus Lake have been selected for the equivalent boys' squad. Bella Hinde-Smith and Annabel Wain have been selected for England U16s.
Oliver Ewart-White has been selected for the Wales Boys' U18s, Julius von Falck for the German Boys' U18s and Luke Jackson for the USA Mens' U21s.
Many Old Reptonians continue to pursue successful careers in Hockey, with recent leaver Harry Stone seeing selection for the GB Mens' U23 Elite Development Programme, and Lily Walker and Flora Peel both making it through the Olympic Qualifiers.
This is a remarkable achievement and adds to a long list of Reptonians that have represented their country at junior level. Many have gone on to compete in Olympic Games or have secured scholarships to elite universities in the UK, Europe and the US.
Whilst each pupil has had a different journey to Repton, each have benefitted hugely from the hockey provision at the school. Under the watchful eye of our two former Olympian lead coaches, Adam Dixon and Michael Hoare, all of these pupils have thrived both at school and club level.
As well as specific strength and conditioning programmes, the pupils receive daily high intensity field-based training as part of their regular school day.
Combined with opportunities to play for Repton Hockey Club, the pupils have their skills tested to the maximum throughout the season, preparing them superbly to earn representative selection.
