REPTON SCHOOL PUPILS WIN ENGINEERING WORKSHOP FOR SIXTH FORMERS

As part of Reptech’s Gold winning prize for the ICE CityZen competition, Repton School welcomed Adam and Oliver from the JBA Trust for a hands-on workshop using their portable wave tanks.

The event offered sixteen pupils from our Lower and Upper Sixth the opportunity to explore environmental engineering concepts by simulating wave dynamics and coastal defences.

In the workshop, the pupils worked together to choose the most appropriate defence strategies for different coastal zones around a simulated town. They assessed the cost, longevity, and environmental impact of various solutions, engaging in a competitive challenge that encouraged teamwork and critical thinking. Following their presentations, the L6 team emerged as the eventual winners, demonstrating the best approach to protecting the town. The workshop concluded with an interesting and engaging careers talk, where Adam and Oliver highlighted the diverse pathways that exist within environmental engineering. The event was well-received, showing strong interest from pupils in pursuing careers in this critical field.

JBA Trust, a UK-based charitable organisation, aims to advance education and research in environmental risk management. They provide educational resources, such as wave tanks and hydraulic flumes, to demonstrate hydrological processes like flood risk management and water dynamics. The trust collaborates with educational institutions and experts, promoting environmental resilience and knowledge sharing through their innovative models.

We are extremely proud of U6 pupils Seb Raper, Jacob Ingleston-Orme, Louis Cholerton, and William Morrison for their previous success in the ICE CityZen Award, which has enabled this session to take place.
