REPTON SCHOOL ROUNDUP - SPRING 2025

As we welcome pupils back for an exciting Summer term, we pause to reflect on the energy and achievement that defined the end of last term and throughout the Easter break. Life at Repton never slows down - and what a wealth of experiences, accolades, and adventures our pupils have enjoyed.

Last term concluded in spectacular style with a vibrant production of The Addams Family, Barnes Squad and Russell Cup competitions, and the Steeplechase with its buzz of house spirit followed by a street food market that brought the school community together. For many Reptonians, the Easter break that followed was anything but quiet.

The Arts

Musical excellence extended further afield: Chapel Choir toured Venice, performing in four stunning venues and receiving glowing praise from local audiences. Emma M made her debut with the National Youth Choir, and Aanya R dominated the Grantham Music Festival, winning across multiple categories including Singing and French Horn, and securing the top Brass trophy.

Repton’s drama talent continues to shine on a national scale. Following a workshop and auditions, eight pupils have been accepted into the prestigious National Youth Theatre, where only 8% of applicants secure a place each year.

Academic

In academic news, Tada's essay on AI was shortlisted from nearly 6,000 entries for a Northeastern University prize - an extraordinary feat. Meanwhile, Jacob I secured a coveted Degree Apprenticeship with Rolls-Royce, one of the most competitive programmes in the UK. Elsewhere, our debaters were making waves at the Durham Debating Competition, with Fisayo and Elektra scoring an impressive 8 out of 9 points on the first day.

Service

The Duke of Edinburgh Award programme is in full swing, with 21 Gold participants completing their practice expedition, and 100 Bronze participants preparing for theirs next weekend. The CCF shooting teams competed nationally for the first time with huge success. Repton’s A Block teams placed 3rd nationally, with strong showings from our O Block and Sixth Form squads.

Sport

Repton pupils achieved outstanding sporting success over the Easter break. In swimming, at the British Championships, Eva Okaro and Jacob Mills earned spots on the GB Senior Team and set new national age group records, while Austyn Manley and Lydia Cordle are being considered for the GB Junior Team, with Austyn also breaking records in the 200m Individual Medley and Backstroke. National consideration times were achieved by Hannah Capron, Will Tonks, and Harry Milne.

On the football pitch, Chi and Freddie J, Darcie C, and Sophie H represented ISFA age-group teams, and our hockey players continued their dominance with national finals appearances in all U16 and U18 categories - the U18 girls securing their third national title of the year. Many pupils also gained international experience at the European Champions Cup and with the UK Lions.

In tennis, Brennan C led England to victory in the Four Nations tournament, with further international competition for Callum S in Hong Kong and Budapest. Brennan and Will A also celebrated LTA Grade 3 wins, and Eisha C competed at the Lexus Junior Nationals. The cricket season began with promising wins for both 1st XIs, and four Reptonians represented Derbyshire 2nd XI. Congratulations go to Liv K and Liv B for their county selections for Middlesex Women and Yorkshire, respectively.

Global Connections & Giving Back

The Easter break also saw the return of our Dubai exchange trip, with 11 A Block pupils engaging in a range of activities with Repton Dubai and Repton Al Barsha. It was a powerful reminder of the global Repton family and the enriching experiences these links offer.

At home, fundraising efforts for Hope for Hannah continued with heart and determination. The School House Upper Sixth completed the Three Peaks Challenge, raising over £3,000 - a tremendous effort in support of a meaningful cause.

Looking Ahead

As we launch into this critical term we remind pupils to support one another, stay focused, and seek help when needed. Whether facing GCSEs, A Levels, or internal assessments, now is the time to consolidate, revise, and reflect.

To our leavers and soon to be Old Reptonians, your final term at Repton is a time to savour friendships and celebrate your journey. Wherever you go next, we hope you leave through the Arch with pride, gratitude — and most of all, kindness.
