Kellee Cavill, Deputy Head Pre-Prep

“It’s hard to fault this purpose-built nursery and Pre-Prep. Light, bright, chockful of art (even the loos are festooned with pretty pictures and wall hangings) and with large outdoor spaces for seamless indoor/outdoor flow and even its own walled garden and paddock to play in.”

NURSERY & EARLY YEARS (Reception)

Repton Prep Nursery, set in 55 acres of beautiful Derbyshire countryside, is a magical place for your child to take their first steps in education. Located in a building dedicated to the youngest children, each room has its own outside play area with chalkboards, water-play, investigation areas and outdoor games so that children can transition safely from indoor and outdoor play under the close supervision of our highly trained and caring staff. We prioritise creating an environment that promotes both individual growth and social interaction, laying the foundation for a positive and stimulating educational journey for your child.

Pupils can join one of two classes, the Squirrels or the Hedgehogs, with these spaces being designed to cater to the developmental needs of rising three and four-year-olds. Our flexible approach allows parents to tailor session bookings to align with their child's interests and the dynamics of their family routine.

To ensure personalised attention and a nurturing environment, we maintain a staff-to-pupil ratio of 1:8 in the Early Years. It is important to note that active participation requires a minimum commitment of three, three-hour sessions per week. This structured engagement not only fosters a sense of routine for the children but also facilitates a more comprehensive and enriching learning experience.

Nursery FAQs

What times do you offer and are you open during term time or all year round?

Our Nursery is open term time only and the term dates can be found on the website. Children can be dropped off from 8.00am, with chargeable after-school care provided up until 6.00pm. Registration is 8.30am, with the formal school day finishing at 3.45pm. Children can attend full days, with a chargeable lunch hour.

Alternatively, children can attend half days either 8.30am to 11.45am for a morning session or 12.45pm to 3.45pm for an afternoon session. A chargeable lunch hour can be added to half-day sessions.

If you are only open during term time, is there a holiday club available?
Unfortunately, we do not offer holiday clubs that run throughout every school holiday here at Repton Prep. We have a very good relationship with another local private nursery who provide holiday clubs and would be delighted to put you in touch. Some age-specific clubs are offered at different times in the holidays, with many requiring a minimum age of 5 years old.
How do your nursery sessions work?
Our nursery sessions are 3 hours in length (8.30am to 11.45am / 12.45pm to 3.45pm). With the addition of lunch at 11.45am for 1 hour. We ask that a minimum of 3 nursery sessions per week are booked. 10 sessions would equate to full-time nursery.
Could you clarify nursery fees costs please?
A breakdown of our nursery charges are: £31.05 per 3-hour nursery session (AM or PM) / £18.75 for lunch and one hour of care.
What meals are offered at the nursery and are there any additional activities available to nursery children?
Morning and afternoon snacks / refreshments are provided at breaktimes. Lunch is provided in our main dining hall, with our nursery pupils dining first for an early lunch at midday. If your child is to stay beyond 5.00pm, tea will be provided at a cost, which is included in the costings below. Nursery children can choose from a number of after school activities from Nursery Hedgehogs. Activities incur an additional charge of approximately £7.00 per session.
Do you offer government funded free childcare hours?
Yes, absolutely. We offer 15 hours of free childcare for 3 and 4 year olds. This applies to the term after your child turns three and lasts for six terms.
Do you also accept childcare vouchers?
Yes, we accept childcare vouchers, which can be used for nursery fees or after-school care. Once your child reaches Reception, the vouchers can only be used for afterschool care, not school fees.

After school care is provided up until 6pm and is charged in 15-minute increments as follows:

Pick Up Time 4pm-4.15pm 4.15pm-4.30pm 4.30pm - 4.45pm 4.45pm - 5pm 5pm - 5.30pm 5.30pm - 5.45pm 5.45pm - 6pm

PRE-PREP (Years 1 to 2)

The Pre-Prep years at Repton Prep play a pivotal role in shaping the foundational aspects of a child's development. This phase is not only crucial for instilling effective learning habits but also for moulding attitudes towards school and learning. Beyond academic pursuits, it is a time when formative friendships take root, influencing social interactions that are integral to a child's growth.

Our commitment is to ensure that every child stepping into this significant educational journey feels not only happy but also secure. To achieve this, we have meticulously crafted an environment abundant in opportunities. Here, children are surrounded by positive role models, fostering an atmosphere where kindness is revered as the greatest attribute and celebrated by all.

Each Form group is led by a qualified teacher, reinforced by the support of a dedicated Learning Enhancement Assistant. The emphasis on specialised learning commences early, with Music, Drama, and Swimming being introduced as specialist subjects from Reception. As pupils progress into Year 1, the curriculum expands to include French and Games, providing a comprehensive foundation. This rounded approach ensures that each child not only excels academically but also thrives in an environment that nurtures creativity, collaboration, and personal growth.
