LUCY AND ISOBEL WRITE TO MP IN RECYCLING PLEA

Year 7 Repton Prep pupils Isobel E and Lucy H have expressed their concerns for the future of the environment in letters to George Eustice MP, Minister for the Environment.

In their letters, Lucy and Isobel urged the MP to act now to reduce our country's waste levels and address the amount of plastic waste that the UK ships overseas.

Isobel has suggested to the Minister for the Environment that supermarkets should more widely offer the option to refill milk, water and orange juice in reusable glass bottles. Lucy emphasised the fact that the UK exported 209,642 tonnes of plastic waste overseas in 2020, which is 30% of the UK’s plastic waste exports. She suggested that as one of the world’s largest economies, the UK should be dedicating more resources to recycling and sustainable initiatives.

We are very proud that our pupils are passionate about real-world problems and are confident in enacting change. The learning environment at Repton Prep encourages pupils to embrace their interests and ideas and understand their societal responsibilities whilst providing academic challenge and stimulating a love for learning.
